The program begins with the torch relay and the lighting of the ceremonial flame — a symbol of the aspirations of the Vietnamese people. The flame is handed to Lieutenant General Nguyen Duc Soat, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces and former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, who achieved outstanding feats by shooting down six enemy aircraft, becoming one of the heroic pilots of the Vietnam People’s Army. 80th National Day parade opens in Hanoi
The grand parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day opened at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi on September 2.
