Deputy Minister of Agrculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam has called for coordination from Japan to implement capacity-building programmes for cooperatives joining Vietnam's project on developing 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice linked with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030, with focus on building a digitalisation system for chain management and establishing a system for monitoring and evaluating emission reductions.

The Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau plans to convert this year nearly 2,000ha of unproductive rice paddies into fields where rice and aquatic species are rotated or perennial crops are grown.

Science and technology is one of the key solutions in implementing agriculture restructuring. In the new context, science and technology research units need to innovate, because the changing mechanisms and policies are associated with the application of science and technology.
