Air traffic control centre proposed for HCM City

The Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has submitted a plan to the Ministry of Construction to build an air traffic control centre in Ho Chi Minh City with a total cost of 1.4 trillion VND (61.7 million USD).

HCM City (VNA) - The VietnamAir Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) has submitted a plan to the Ministryof Construction to build an air traffic control centre in Ho Chi Minh City witha total cost of 1.4 trillion VND (61.7 million USD).

According to VATM, the number offlights operating within the Hanoi and HCM City flight regions is increasingrapidly.

By the end of last year, VATM handledaround 800,000 flights, and by 2030 the number is expected to be 1 million.

“Given the current growth rate, the airtraffic management output will reach 1 million flights by 2020 and 1.8 millionflights by 2030, doubling our forecast in 2009,” a VATM official said.

Along with the fast growth ofregistered aircraft for navigation services, VATM said demand for technologyupgrades as well as flight safety and security enhancements are among the mainreasons for the group to upgrade services.

The 12-year-old HCM Area and ApproachControl Centre’s technology and equipment will soon be outdated and itsinfrastructure is declining.

If the plan is approved, the newfacility will be built with loans and the group’s capital.

Construction is scheduled for threeyears, starting around the first quarter of 2018.-VNA
