The Foreign Relations Department under the Ministry of National Defence was awarded the first-class Military Exploit Order at a ceremony held in Hanoi on May 28 on the 60th anniversary of its traditional day (May 28, 1964 - 2024).

Building the firm postures of people’s determination, all-people national defence and people's security to lay groundwork for the cause of national defence is one of the important tasks and solutions to carry the country towards a new development period, which is mentioned in the documents of the 13th National Party Congress.

The new perceptions and mindset about Vietnam’s national defence were presented by Sen. Lt. Gen. Phan Van Giang, member of Politburo, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, and Deputy Minister of National Defence, at a teleconference on March 28.

The army should lead the way in preventing internal “self-evolution” and “self-transformation,” Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong said at a meeting on December 19 with a delegation of exemplars in building the all-people national defence in 2009-2019.

The 2019 White Paper on Vietnam National Defence highlights peace and self-defence as basic principles of the country’s defence policy.
