Buenos Aires (VNA) ✅– Argentine press on September 2 gave extensive coverage to the grand parade marking the 80th anniversaries of Vietnam’s August Revolution (August 19, 1945–2025) and National Day (September 2, 1945–2025).
Resumen Latinoamericano reported that Hanoi was brightly decorated and filled with festive spirit as the capital commemorated the historic day when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence at Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The newspaper noted that some 40,000 people took part in the parade, which featured 87 formations including armed forces, police, militia, mass organisations and mechanised units. The programme began with a torch-lighting ceremony and flag-raising, followed by a solemn military parade demonstrating the strength, discipline and unity of Vietnam’s armed forces.
Resumen Latinoamericano recalled that on September 2, 1945, Vietnam became the first Asian nation to declare independence after World War II, marking the end of French colonial rule and Japanese fascist ocupation. This year’s celebration was described as not only a landmark occasion for the Vietnamese people but also a gesture of international solidarity, with military delegations from China, Russia, Laos and Cambodia in attendance. Russia sent its Preobrazhensky Regiment honour guard, while Laos and Cambodia each contributed 120 troops.
It hailed the presence of foreign guests, including First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, which was described as a symbol of the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.
The parade, featuring various formations ranging from honour guards and people’s armed forces to foreign contingents and mechanised units, was said to blend tradition with modernity, reflecting Vietnam’s combat readiness, technical capacity and determination to defend its sovereignty.
On Telesur television, Argentine expert Silvano Pascuzo stressed that the commemoration’s stature must be seen from the istorical context: a nation that endured three major wars against Japan, France and the United States; was guided by President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam with steadfast determination to gain independence; and has made remarkable strides in modernisation and global integration in recent decades.
The same day, Argentina’s leading daily La Nacion ran an article headlined “Vietnam celebrates National Day with grand military parade.” The report quoted Party General Secretary To Lam's speech, affirming Vietnam’s resolve to safeguard independence, freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity through the combined strength of its political, economic, cultural, scientific, technological, military and diplomatic resources, together with the will of its people.
La Nacion described the event as the largest parade in decades, showcasing tanks, missiles, helicopters and fighter jets. Thousands of Vietnamese troops marched alongside contingents from China, Russia and other nations. The newspaper noted that the government allocated a 380 million USD gift package for citizens on this occasion, while President Luong Cuong announced amnesty for 13,920 prisoners, including 66 foreigners.
The report also captured scenes of tens of thousands of people in Hanoi donning red attire and waving national flags as they filled the streets to witness the celebration, which conveyed a strong spirit of national unity. It further pointed out that the parade also took place at sea, in Cam Ranh Bay in Khanh Hoa province, featuring Vietnam’s modern submarine fleet and destroyers./.
