Ancient maps affirming Vietnam’s ownership of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, and 80 pictures of China’s illegal construction in the East Sea were on display at an exhibition in the Republic of Korea’s Daejeon. The Vietnamese community in Daejeon and Professor Kim Huyn Joong from Konyang University held the exhibition from October 11 to 12 as part of the city’s second Vietnamese cultural festival. City leaders attended, as well as more than 100 visitors from RoK and other countries.
The exhibition aimed to call for public support to put an end to China’s illegal construction in the East Sea, Kim said, adding that it also served as a catalyst to urge countries to maintain peace, sustainability, marine safety and ecology protection in the East Sea. Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Pham Huu Chi said the organising board has shown great initiative, and that viewers would hopefully learn more about China’s violation of Vietnamese maritime sovereignty and Vietnam’s protection of its waters.
Chi thanked foreign friends for supporting the country on the East Sea issue over the past few years. Participants at the event wanted the exhibition to be duplicated in other cities to further supports for Vietnam’s struggle. The exhibition was also held in Busan from May 30 to June 1 and Gwangju from September 11 to 12.-VNA
