At the event, ChildFund Chief Representative in Vietnam Deborah Leaversaid that the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) is an innovativeway of mobilising communities to completely eliminate open defecation.It focuses on the behavioural change needed to ensure real andsustainable improvements.

According to Nguyen HuyNga, head of the Environmental Management Department under the Ministryof Health, the pilot implementation of the model shows that it is a goodapproach and may be applied widely in the communities, especially thosein remote areas.

The CLTS programme has been piloted in Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Kon Tum, Ninh Thuan, An Giang and Dong Thap provinces.-VNA

Vietnam ramps 👍up plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
