Fisheries sector speeds up to earn 5.4 billion USD in H2

Hanoi (VNA) - Following a strong rebound in the first half of 2025, Vietnam’s fisheries industry is navigating both opportunities and headwinds as it works to achieve its full-year export target of 10.5 billion USD꧒, up 4.3% year-on-year.

With 5.16 billion USD already generated, the sector must secure more than 5.4 billion USD in the second half to meet its target, a critical phase requiring concerted efforts in market strategy, product focus, and supply chain sustainability.
Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment estimates June exports at 950 million USD, bringing total revenue for the first six months to 5.16 billion USD, an increase of 16.9% over the same period last year. Key export drivers include shrimp, which earned 2.07 billion USD, up 26% , and pangasius, reaching 1 billion USD, up 10%. China, the US, and Japan remained Vietnam’s top three seafood markets, accounting for 19.6%, 18.2%, and 15% of the total export value, respectively. Notably, exports to China surged 53.7%, while shipments to the US and Japan rose by 22.8% and 9.1%. Brazil also emerged as a fast-growing market, with export value up 71.3%, signaling new potential for expansion./.
