Hanoi (VNA)♎ – With forecasters warning of a complicated storm season this year, the Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI) has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of the power grid and maintain continuous, stable electricity supply across the capital.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, between 10 and 12 storms and tropical depressions are expected to form in the East Sea in 2025, with around four to six likely to make landfall in Vietnam. Although Hanoi is not a coastal locality, it frequently faces heavy rains, strong winds and thunderstorms that threaten power lines and public safety if preparedness is not in place. To address these challenges, EVNHANOI issued its 2025 disaster prevention and rescue plan right at the start of the rainy season, strengthening its command structures across all subsidiaries. Electricity supply scenarios and contingency plans are being regularly reviewed and updated in line with evolving weather conditions.
The corporation has carried out comprehensive inspections and reinforcement of thousands of kilometres of power lines, clearing vegetation corridors and addressing risks from trees or branches that could fall onto power cables during storms. EVNHANOI’s Safety Department emphasised that inspections and maintenance are conducted year-round, with intensified efforts during the storm season to identify and eliminate hazards early, ensuring the safe and stable operation of the grid.
In terms of emergency readiness, all units have deployed full on-duty teams prepared to respond to incidents at any time. Specialised task forces for disaster prevention and rescue have been equipped with cranes, backup generators, measuring devices and inflatable boats to reach flooded or storm-damaged areas quickly. Alongside infrastructure measures, EVNHANOI has strengthened public awareness campaigns on electrical safety during storms. Safety messages are being disseminated via social media and press outlets, urging residents to check household electrical systems and apply safety measures. EVNHANOI has committed to avoiding any shortcomings in securing power line safety corridors. Thoroughly prepared operational scenarios and response plans aim to ensure both public safety and uninterrupted electricity supply for Hanoi’s socio-economic development during the storm season./.
