The preservation and promotion of traditional culture and architecture of ethnic minority groups is getting due attention from Cao Bang provincial authorities. The efforts have formed community-based tourism models in border villages of the locality, where 95% of the population are ethnic groups, such as Tay, Nung, H’Mong, Lo Lo and others.
A ceremony was held in the northern province of Tuyen Quang on September 3 night to receive a UNESCO certificate accrediting Practices of Then by Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic minority groups in Vietnam as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
Together with sli and luon singing, “lay co” folk game has been indispensable at any gathering, especially during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups in Lang Son and many other provinces.
The sixth national festival of the art of Then singing and Tinh gourd lute of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups officially opened in Ha Giang city, the northernmost province of Ha Giang, on May 13.
Then singing, a unique art of Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in some northern mountainous localities, is a religious art considered melodies of Heaven.
Lang Son encouraged the establishment of local Then singing clubs to promote the development of this genre of traditional singing – a typical culture of Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic people in the northern mountainous region.
Singing groups from across the country will gather to celebrate the fifth National Festival of the Traditional Then Singing of Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups.
