Bangkok (VNA) – Secretary-General of the ruling Pheu Thai Party Sorawong Thienthong said on September 3 that Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai has submitted a draft royal decree to dissolve the House of Representatives for the King’s approval.
Sorawong, who also serves as acting Minister of Tourism and Sports, said the submission followed the People’s Party (PP)’s announcement of a resolution backing Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul as the next PM.
According to Sorawong, Pheu Thai decided to dissolve the lower house after determining that the PP’s resolution would create a political deadlock. While the PP declared support for Anutin’s candidacy, it also ruled out joining a coalition, leaving the prospective alliance with only 130 lawmakers, far short of the majority needed for a confidence vote.
