Vietnamese women’s specialrole in the settlement of post-war bomb and mine consequences has beenhighlighted at a photo exhibition held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The exhibition, opened in Hanoi on December 7, forms part of the internationalconference on strengthening women’s role in building and sustaining peace: fromcommitments to results, from December 7-9.

In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung saidthe settlement of bomb and mine aftermath, especially in the post-conflictenvironment, is one of the priorities set by Vietnam in its role of anon-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the2020-2021 tenure, with the aim of sharing experience and contributing tointernational efforts in this regard, for peace, security, stability anddevelopment.

The settlement work requires not only national efforts and internationalcooperation, but also the involvement of all forces, he said, adding that womenhave played a significant role in this sphere.

The exhibition is set to draw more international attention and resources forthe settlement of bomb and mine consequences in Vietnam, promote women’s role,and create a momentum for the settlement of bomb and mine aftermath in serviceof post-conflict reconstruction at the UNSC in April 2021 when Vietnam assumesthe UNSC presidency for the second time in the 2020-2021 tenure./.
