Hanoi (VNA)– Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stressed the important role played byscience and technology in promoting production value and economic growth, andasked for more efforts to effectively develop the sector in the coming time.

Speaking at aconference held by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Hanoi on January 9to review scientific and technological activities in 2017, the Governmentleader praised state management of science and technology at all levels in theyear. It is necessary to continuecreating breakthroughs in improving the innovation index and considerenterprises as a centre of innovation, he said. Attention should be paidto building laws related to science and technology development and policies onusing human resources, as well as increasing investment in the sector, henoted.

PM Phuc also pointedout shortcomings that must be solved in the coming time in order to promote theapplication of science and technology in production and business activities,and commercialization of science-technology products.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh said the sector served as adriving 🌠force for the nation’s socio-economic development.

The year 2017 witnessedgreat efforts in renovating state management and effective collaboration among ministriesand sectors to foster the development of science and technology, he added. Minister of Science andTechnology Chu Ngoc Anh said the ministry will continue fine-tuning legalregulations; encourage the implementation of science and technology tasks inconnection with enterprises’ development and promote application of high technologiesin  agriculture development, especiallyfor key farm products for export./.

PM calls for cooperation with Sweden in🥀 nuclear energy technology

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
