Quang Ngai fisherman praised for saving others at sea

A fisherman in the central province of Quang Ngai was granted with the State President’s Bravery Order on November 21 in recognition of his saving of four others in distress at sea.

Quang Ngai (VNA) – A fisherman in the centralprovince of Quang Ngai was granted with the State President’s Bravery Order onNovember 21 in recognition of his saving of four others in distress at sea.

On December 16, 2017, a fishing boat fromcentral Binh Dinh province was sunk by strong waves in a location about 280nautical miles from the shore, in the vicinity of Vietnam’s HoangSa (Paracel)archipelago. 

Four fishermen on this boat only had enough timeto send a distress signal and then moved onto a small coracle.

Receiving the signal, Tran Thanh Ron, a25-year-old fisherman from Duc Pho district of Quang Ngai, and three others steeredtheir boat to the place of the boat in distress to save the four.

Ron, bringing robes along, jumped down to thesea to help the four fishermen.

In January, the Chairman of the Quang Ngaiprovincial People’s Committee also presented a certificate of merit to theboat’s crew to honour their action.-VNA
