Singapore reports first Zika case

Singapore (VNA) - The Ministry of Health (MoH) and National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore reported the first imported case of Zika virus on May 13.

The statement said the patient is a 48-year-old male who travelled to Sao Paulo, Brazil from March 27 to May 7. He developed fever and rash on May 10, was admitted to the hospital and isolated on May 12.

He will be transferred to the Communicable Diseases Centre at Tan Tock Seng hospital for treatment and isolation, said the MoH, adding that he will only be discharged upon being tested negative for the virus.

The ministry is screening the patient's household members. It said the MoH and NEA warn residents in the vicinity to seek medical attention should they develop symptoms of fever and rash.

Found for the first time in Africa, Zika virus later spread to Asia and Latin Am🐻erica and erupt into the most severe outbreak so far. More than 50 countries and territories worldwide h🐬ave reported the infections.

The virus is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquito, sex and blood transfusion.

There is no treatmen♓t ♔or vaccine against the virus./.
