Announcing in a release on September 6, theInfocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) at the Ministry of Communicationsand Information said that StarHub was fined 210,000 SGD (about 153,836 USD) forbroadband service disruptions in April, and M1 given a penalty of 400,000 SGD forsimilar disruptions the next month.
The authority said the telcos hadcontravened the 2016 Code of Practice for Telecommunication Service Resilience.
Some 250,000 subscribers were affected bythe StarHub incident, which could have been prevented if StarHub had bettersupervised its staff, said the IMDA.
Meanwhile, M1 was hit with a heftier fineas it took 23 hours to fix the problem.
IMDA's deputy chief executive Aileen Chiasaid the authority takes a serious view of any service disruption to publictelecoms services, particularly during the circuit breaker period when mostpeople were working and studying from home.
The agency will continue to work withoperators to strengthen network resilience and improve customer communications,she pledged./.
