Thailand: Provincial Governors asked to prepare plans to prevent COVID-19

The Director-General of the Department of Disease Control of Thailand has informed regional administrations to plan for further outbreaks of COVID-19 as more people than expected have been traveling to their hometowns under the “Work from Home” policy.

Bangkok (NNT/VNA) - Since the Thai government asked every sector to adopt a “Work from Home” policy, in an attemptto slow down the virus outbreak, more people than expected have been travelingto their hometowns. The Director-General of the Department of Disease Controlhas informed regional administrations to plan for further outbreaks ofCOVID-19.

Doctor Suwanchai Wattana-Yingcharoenchai, Director Generalof Department of Disease Control (DDC), and the National Communicable DiseaseCommittee sent a request to Provincial Governors to make preparations for finding,tracking, monitoring and quarantining any infected people arriving in theirdistricts and villages.

The plan aims to have volunteers searching and monitoring,as well as a database of home-comers established, starting today. The doctor also emphasized theimportance of following instructions to prevent the spread, such as 14 days of self quarantine, avoiding sharing cutlery and personalstuff, washing hands frequently with soap for at least 20seconds or using 70-percent-alcohol hand sanitizers, adopting socialdistancing, especially with the elderly and chronically ill patients. Mostimportantly, people areurged to report to medical authorities in thecase of developing symptoms./.
