US Air Force Academy delegation to visit Vietnam this summer

The US Air Force Academy will to send a delegation of students to Vietnam and several other Southeast Asian nations this summer for information, language and cultural exchanges with these countries.

Hanoi (VNA) –The US Air Force Academy (USAFA) is scheduled to send a delegation of studentsto Vietnam and several other Southeast Asian nations this summer for information,language and cultural exchanges with these countries, said USAFA ViceSuperintendent Colonel David Harris.

Harris informed VietnameseAmbassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh of the plan when the Ambassador visited theacademy last week. He also said that the academy is working to build a suitablecooperation programme with Vietnam.

The Colonel briefedAmbassador Vinh on the USAFA’s international cooperation programmes in thefields of training and research, including the exchange of students for bothshort and long terms.

Apart from nationaldefence, the academy also has strengths in other spheres like informationtechnology, cyber security, administration, mechanics, international relationsand languages, he said.

Host and guest applaudedthe development of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership across the fields,including national defence and security, and cooperation in regional andinternational matters of shared concern.

They highlighted thevisit to the US by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in May 2017 and PresidentDonald Trump’s visit to Vietnam in November the same year, as well as therecent visits by the two countries’ defence ministers over the past time.

Ambassador Vinh expressedhis hope that Vietnam and the US will promote the comprehensive partnership, includingcollaboration in training and capacity building in national defence andsecurity.

On this occasion, thediplomat shared Vietnam’sviewpoints on a number of regional and international issues.

Established in 1954,the USAFA is one of the five major military academies of the US, with 4,200students of 29 departments.-VNA
