Vietnam, Malaysia bolster defence relations

Vietnam and Malaysia have agreed to maintain delegation exchanges, particularly at high-ranking levels, cooperation in training and the sharing of information and experience.

– Vietnam and Malaysia have agreed to maintain delegationexchanges, particularly at high-ranking levels, cooperation in training and thesharing of information and experience in participating in United Nations’ peacekeepingmissions.

The consensus was reached during talksbetween Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang, Chief of General Staff of the VietnamPeople’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defence, and Chief of MalaysianDefence Force Gen. Raja Mohamed Affandi in Kuala Lumpur, on March 6.

They pledged to continue intensifyingcollaboration in all fields and coordination at multilateral forums.

They also agreed on the early organisationof a meeting of the joint working group on bilateral defence cooperation.

During the talks, the two sides said bothVietnam and Malaysia attach importance to relations with ASEAN nations.

They suggested the two countries step upbilateral ties to help strengthen intra-block connectivity and maintain thecentral role of ASEAN.

Sen. Lieut. Gen. Giang took the occasion toinvite Gen. Affandi to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time. The latteraccepted the invitation.

Giang led a high-ranking delegation of theVietnam People’s Army to visit Malaysia from March 4-6.

This visit aimed to enhance defence-militarycooperation on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of bilateraldiplomatic ties.-VNA
