VNA strengthens Vietnam’s link with overseas communities and global partners: diplomat

With its 80-year legacy and spirit of innovation, the VNA will further affirm its role as Vietnam’s premier national news agency, the authoritative voice of the nation, and a strong bridge connecting the country with international friends and overseas Vietnamese worldwide.

Washington D.C. (VNA)🐎 – As Vietnam–US relations enter a new stage marked by both opportunities and challenges, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) has continued to spread the image of a confident, innovative, responsible, and globally integrated Vietnam through its news coverage from the US and around the world, Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco Hoang Anh Tuan has said.

In an interview with VNA correspondents in Washington on the occasion of the agency’s 80th founding anniversary (September 15, 1945 – 2025), the diplomat noted that the VNA’s reports not only reach the international community but also resonate deeply with overseas Vietnamese, fostering stronger bonds and unity. At the national level, he underscored, the VNA serves as Vietnam’s official voice, conveying the country’s positions and perspectives on regional and global issues. Its greatest strength, he said, lies in its ability to transmit Vietnam’s messages with transparency and accuracy amid an increasingly complex global media environment.
Beyond reporting, it provides context and analysis, ensuring reliable and credible information, which has made its coverage a trusted reference for international media outlets. Highlighting its role in linking overseas Vietnamese (OV) with their homeland, the Consul General stressed that for generations of Vietnamese in the US, from Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and academics to long-established families, authoritative information from Vietnam carries profound significance. The VNA, he said, acts as a bridge, enabling them to stay connected with developments at home while understanding the nation’s efforts in development, integration, and sovereignty protection. News stories and features on overseas Vietnamese in the US, aired on VNews or published by Tin Tuc newspaper and VietnamPlus, both honour the community and reinforce a clear message: wherever they may live, Vietnamese people remain an inseparable part of the nation. For Tuan, this represents invaluable support in strengthening trust and bonds between expatriates and their homeland.
He also commended the VNA’s strong transformation in the digital era, evolving from a traditional news agency into a multi-platform media organisation with robust growth across television, online journalism, and social media. While this opens vast opportunities, he cautioned, it also brings significant challenges such as fierce competition with global media giants and the rise of fake news. According to the diplomat, the VNA must continue to uphold its core values of honesty, objectivity, and authority, while embracing innovation, artificial intelligence, big data, and digital technologies to enhance both speed and quality. Equally important, he added, are the agency’s dedicated journalists, committed professionals willing to work in demanding conditions to deliver the truth to the public. With its 80-year legacy and spirit of innovation, Tuan expressed confidence that the VNA will further affirm its role as Vietnam’s premier national news agency, the authoritative voice of the nation, and a strong bridge connecting the country with international friends and overseas Vietnamese worldwide./.
