Yen Bai: 16 people killed, missing in floods

Torrential rains brought by a tropical low pressure system on October 10 and 11 triggered floods in the northern province of Yen Bai, which caused 16 people dead and missing as of 13:00 pm on October 11.

Yen Bai (VNA) – Torrential rains brought by atropical low pressure system on October 10 and 11 triggered floods in thenorthern province of Yen Bai, which caused 16 people dead and missing as of13:00 pm on October 11.

Floods also damaged over 230 houses in Van Chan, Tram Taudistrict and Nghia Lo township in northern Yen Bai province on October 11.

Tram Tau district reported three deaths and three injuredpersons while five others are missing.

In Van Chan district, four people in a family wentmissing.

In Nghia Lo township, Thia Bridge collapsed at 12:15 pmin severe floods, making five people fall into the stream and go missing,including an on-duty Vietnam News Agency correspondent.

The province has sent more than 100 military soldiers andhealth workers to the site for search and rescue while Chairman of theprovincial People’s Committee Do Duc Duy asked for an increase in forces toguard at high-risk locations, such as Ao Luong and a bridge at the Van ChanHydropower plant.

Meanwhile, landslides have shut down many roads at NghiaLo and Van Chan; dozens of landslides were reported along provincial road No.174 from Nghia Lo to Tram Tau, blocking transport.-VNA
