Hanoi (VNA) – The forestry sector will support the issuance of sustainableforest management certificates on an area of 100,000ha per year as part ofefforts to ensure that Vietnamese wood products satisfy all internationalrequirements as the country joins free trade agreements.

Thesector has set the target of reducing 35 percent in damaged forest areas and inthe number of violation cases compared to the 2011-2015 period by strengtheningthe law enforcement capacity.

Furthermore,the wood processing industry will be developed by supporting the constructionof processing factories, advanced technology forestry areas, and supportindustries in major economic regions.

Thesector will increase investment to upgrade forestry infrastructure, especiallytransport systems to reduce direct costs for planting, exploiting, transporting,and processing forestry products.

Accordingto Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Ha Cong Tuan, theministry has launched a movement to complete and surpass all goals set in thesustainable forestry development programme for the 2016-2020 period.

Theministry will strive to achieve the growth of 6.05 percent per year in 2020,with national forest coverage reaching 42 percent, he said.

Othertargets include 14.4 million ha of forest area of all kinds, average annualproductivity reaching 20 cu.m of wood per ha, and 11 billion USD in exportrevenue of forestry products and wooden furniture.

Thesector will maintain the creation of 25 million jobs per year, helping to promotepoverty production and improving foresters’ livelihood in line with thebuilding of new-style rural areas and ensuring national security and defence,said Tuan.

Meanwhile,the ministry will work harder to protect natural forests, while restoring 15 percentof degraded forest areas and planting an additional 100,000ha of special-useforest areas in 2020.–VNA

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public.
