1.3 billion VND allocated to nine flood-hit provinces

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee has allocated 1.3 billion VND (57,187 USD) to nine northern mountainous provinces to help them tackle consequences of recent torrential rains and floods.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Fatherland Front CentralCommittee has allocated 1.3 billion VND (57,187 USD) to nine northernmountainous provinces to help them tackle consequences of recent torrential rainsand floods.

Accordingly, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Ha Giang and Son La receive200 million VND (8,798 USD) each, while Thai Nguyen, Dien Bien, Cao Bang, BacKan and Hoa Binh are provided with 100 million VND (4,399 USD) each.

Besides, the Vietnam Red Cross decided to provided 180million VND (7,918 USD) in emergency aid for flood victims.

Torrentialrains and floods have so far killed 16 people, of whom four lost their lives toa landslide. Another two people are unaccounted for in Cao Bang and Ha Giangprovinces. 

Torrential rains and floods have also damaged 175 houses, submerged 500hectares of paddy fields and other crops, and swept away 70,000 cubic meters ofsoil and rocks.

Initial losses were estimated at around 28 billion VND (1.23 million USD).-VNA
