13th PCC’s second plenum considers candidates for leading positions

Hanoi (VNA)
– Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen PhuTrong on March 8 told the 13th Party Central Committee’s secondplenum that the Politburo will seek the committee’s decision on the candidatesfor the posts of State President, Prime Minister and National AssemblyChairperson at this plenum.

The Politburo will also ask for the Party CentralCommittee’s opinions before it officially introduce candidates for other postsfor the legislature to consider, elect or approve, Trong stated.

In his opening remarks, the top leader stressed the need to givepriority to urgent issues, outstanding difficulties and key missions which needbreakthroughs.

He noted that after the 13th National Party Congress, thePolitburo assigned tasks for Politburo and Secretariat members and prepared forthe introduction of Party Central Committee members as candidates for theelection of deputies to the 15th NA.

The Politburo reached a high consensus on the need to earlycomplete the nomination of candidates for leading positions of State offices,and to submit the nominations to the 14th NA’s 11th session for approval.

The top leader emphasized the importance of consistently followingthe orientation for personnel work approved by the 13th NationalParty Congress so as to ensure the united, comprehensive and harmoniousleadership of the Party in all aspects and localities and create a generalstrength.

It is necessary to have an overall view to reach the mostsuitable personnel arrangement, he said, adding that personnel work should becarried out in accordance with the Party’s regulations, the Party CentralCommittee’s working statutes, and the principle of the Party’s leadership in personnelwork and management of officials of the political system, as well as legalregulations on State agencies’ organisation and operations.

The 13th Party Central Committee’s second plenumwill last until March 9./.
