17 foreign delegations to attend friendship border exchange

As many as 17 foreign delegations from China, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar will attend the third friendship border exchange programme in Hanoi on August 25, according to the High Command of Border Guards.

Hanoi (VNA) – As many as 17 foreigndelegations from China, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar will attend thethird friendship border exchange programme in Hanoi on August 25, according to theHigh Command of Border Guards.

During a press conference in Hanoi on August16, Deputy Political Commissar of the HighCommand of Border Guards Major Gen. Phung Quoc Tuan said the event will form part of celebrations for not onlythe 73rd anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, but also the60th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Border Guards (March 3, 1959) andthe 30th anniversary of the All People’s Border Guard Day (March 3, 1989).

He added that the event also aimsto enhance external defence affairs to meet modern demands. It will review the jointwork to seriously adhere to border management mechanisms and agreements,especially those regarding the war against drugs, human trafficking, and tradefraud crimes; search and rescue, and the prevention of natural disasterimpacts; environmental protection; as well as models of twin border stationsand communities.

A highlight of the event will be an exchangewith leaders of border guard forces from the Vietnamese Defence Ministry’sBorder Guard High Command, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security’s BorderControl Department, the Lao Ministry of Public Security’s General Department ofPolice, the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces’ Royal Army High Command, the RoyalThai Armed Forces’ Border Division, and the Myanmar Ministry of HomeAffairs’ Department of Border Police. 

They are expected to share stories about theirtasks in safeguarding border, sea, and island sovereignty and security, defenceexternal affairs between Vietnam and the regional countries, and mutual supportin border construction and defence.
