About 500 students join Hanoi mathematics contest

Nearly 500 students will compete at the 15th Hanoi Open Mathematics Competition (HOMC) from March 26 to 30, with foreign contestants joining for the first time.

Hanoi (VNA) – Nea𝓡rly 500students will compete at the 15th Hanoi Open Mathemat﷽ics Competition (HOMC)from March 26 to 30, with foreign contestants joining for the first time.

Participants will be divided into twogroups. The first group comprises of 87 international students from 10 countriesand territories including Poland, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, andHungary. The students of this group willparticipate in individual and team competition, along with a culturalpresentation in which they will introduce cultural characteristics of their countries. Meanwhile, 411 contestants of Group Bcome from 22 localities across Vietnam and will attend the individualcompetition only. The official language of thecompetition is English and exam questions in the individual competition of thetwo groups will be the same. The HOMC, held annually in March, wasfirst launched in 2004 for students of the eighth and tenth grade. It encouragesstudents to improve their studying as well as serves as a playing ground forthem and their peers from other countries. With the participation of 87 foreigncontestants, this year’s edition is expected to increase mutual understandingand international cooperation, as well as promote images of cultural identityand people of Vietnam and Hanoi in particular.-VNA
