Action month to call for more efforts in environmental protection

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment plans to launch an “Action month for the environment” later this year to encourage stronger engagement of organisations, enterprises and the community in environmental protection.

Hanoi (VNA) – TheMinistry of Natural Resources and Environment plans to launch an “Action monthfor the environment” later this year to encourage stronger engagement of organisations,enterprises and the community in environmental protection.

Last year, the action month washeld in June, which was responded positively by many localities across thenation, significantly raising public awareness of protecting the environment.

According to Vice Director of theVietnam Environment Administration Hoang Van Thuc, the highlight of the actionmonth this year is a launching ceremony and presentation of environment awardsin the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, which will be broadcast live onthe Vietnam Television.

The ministry will also organisevarious activities and events during the month, including a seminar onenvironmental protection, an international exhibition on environmentaltechnology and ecological products, as well as a running event for theenvironment, he said.

An environment ambassador will beselected, while a tree planting programme entitled “A million green trees forVietnam” will be held, said Thuc, adding that the ministry will hold a policy dialogueon environment and sustainable development, as well as a training course toimprove effectiveness of State management over environmental protection andbiodiversity preservation.

A seminar will discuss the roleof social organisations, socio-professional and non-governmental organisationsin encouraging the community to protect the environment, he added.-VNA

♊Vietnam ramps u✤p plastic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
