Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with the administration of Bac Giang province and chaired a teleconference with other northern localities on September 10 to discuss response to severe flooding, landslides, and flash flooding.

After listening to local officials’ report on the flooding situation and consequences, he extended sympathies from Party and State leaders to the bereaved families and those hit by super Typhoon Yagi and accompanying downpour and flooding. He also praised local Party committees, administrations, and people’s active response to minimise losses. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 9 issued a decision on allocating 100 billion VND (some 4 million USD) from the 2024 central budget reserve to support five provinces affected by typhoon Yagi.

The provinces receiving aid include Nam Dinh (20 billion VND), Thai Binh (30 billion VND), Hai Duong (20 billion VND), Yen Bai (20 billion VND), and Hung Yen (10 billion VND). Read full story

The two leaders informed each other about the situation of each Party and country and exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern. - Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko presided over an official welcome ceremony for visiting Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man in Moscow on September 9 afternoon (local time).

Matvienko warmly welcomed Man and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese NA on an official visit to Russia. She said Russia attaches great importance to this visit, and expressed her belief that it will not only help expand interparliamentary cooperation but also further promote the Russia-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership. - Visiting Mozambican President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi toured the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) in Hanoi on September 10.

HCMA Permanent Vice Director Nguyen Duy Bac briefed the guest on the history of the academy, which was established in 1949 to train and improve the quality of leadership and management officials of the Party and State at the middle and high levels. Read full story

- Global ICT company FPT Software, a subsidiary of the FPT Corporation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a strategic partnership with Vilja, a leading Nordic core banking service provider based in Stockholm, in the framework of the recent Vietnam-Sweden Business Forum 2024. - Vietnam’s index of industrial production (IIP) saw a year-on-year increase of 8.8% over the past eight months, extending the recovery of the sector, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has reported.

The processing and manufacturing industry rose by 9.7%, electricity production and distribution soared 11.6%, while water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment activities were up 7.8%. Meanwhile, the mining sector was down 6%. Read full story

- Passion fruits have become the fifth kind of Vietnamese fruits to be officially exported to Australia, following mango, longan, lychee, and dragon fruit.

On September 9, the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the Australian Embassy in Vietnam held a ceremony to announce the export of Vietnamese passion fruits to Australia and the import of Australian plums into Vietnam.
