Hanoi (VNA) – All localities are ready for the election day slated for May 22, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan has assured the media in a recent interview.

Nhan, who is also Vice Chairman of the National Election Council, said candidates have already met constituents in 63 cities and provinces nationwide in the spirit of openness, transparency and fairness.

About the supervision over the election, including vote counting, Nhan said the Law on the Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and the People’s Councils regulates that the vote counting must be monitored by parties concerned, including the VFF, the media and families of the candidates could join in the process, he said, adding that a detailed guideline will be issued by the National Election Council in the next two days.

Asked about the VFF’s role in monitoring the delivery of promises by candidates, Nhan said the candidates presented their own action plans, most of which highlight promises, during their meetings with constituents.

He said the action plans, including promises, are recorded on television and radio so that the public is aware.

Deputies need to report to the public about their delivery on promises, he said, adding that the V✃FF and the National Assembly Standing Committee will strive to better monitor the process in a systematic fashion.-VNA
