An Giang (VNA) – About 15 tonnes of breeding fish of different varieties,including 193,000 individuals of rare indigenous fish,were released to nature in Vam Nao River crossing Binh Thuy commune, Chau Phudistrict, the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on August 10.

The event wasa joint effort of the Directorate of Fisheries and the provincial Department ofAgriculture and Rural Development to restore and reproduce aquatic resourcesfor the future generation.

Addressing theevent, deputy director of the An Giang Department of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment Vo Thi Thanh Van said the fish release does not only aim to restoreand protect aquatic biodiversity in the province as well as along the MekongRiver but also increase public awareness of the significance of naturalresources and sustainably develop local fisheries.

Since 2012,the department has partnered with district administrations in various ocassionsto release fish along Tienand Hau rivers in the province. Nearly 130 tonnes of fish of different typeshave been returned to the nature so far. –VNA

Renowned artists including Ha Anh Tuan, Den Vau, and Phan Manh Quynh, along with many directors and attendees, took part in planting hundreds of rare tree species such as mun (Diospyros mun) and cho chi (Parashorea chinensis) in the Thung Bong area of the Cuc Phuong National Park, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration.
