APEC 2017: NZ vows to maintain ODA provision for Vietnam

Da Nang (VNA) – New Zealand Prime MinisterJacinda Ardern pledged to maintain the provision of official assistancedevelopment (ODA) and scholars for Vietnam during a meeting with her Vietnamesecounterpart, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, in Da Nang city on November 10.

She spoke highly of Vietnam’s role as the host of the APECYear 2017, believing that the success of this APEC Economic Leaders’ Meetingwill create a new driving force for and maintain the growth pace of theAsia-Pacific region.

She also appreciated Vietnam’s hosting of a meeting of 11Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) leaders, affirming to coordinate closely withVietnam and other members to set forth an appropriate way for TPP in the timeahead.

PM Phuc thanked New Zealand for its aid worth 500,000 NZD(347,700 USD) for storm-hit localities in Vietnam.

Both host and guest agreed to intensify delegation exchangesand boost trade ties in order to raise two-way trade to 1.7 billion USD by2020.

They also exchanged views on several regional andinternational issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue. Theyagreed that disputes need to be solved by peaceful means on the basis ofrespecting international law.
