App to counter wildlife trade

A training course on the WildScan wildlife protection app was kicked off on May 11 in Hanoi by the Biodiversity Conservation Division (BCD) under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Freeland organisation.

The activity is part of the AsiaRegional Response to Endangered Species Trafficking (ARREST)programme, sponsored by the United States Agency for InternationalDevelopment (USAID).

The app is a new tool toassist the campaign against illegal wildlife trade, providing a means toidentify endangered species sold to consumers and rapidly report theirsale.

According to Hoang Thi Thanh Nhan, Deputy Head of theBCD, the app is a new approach assisting not only law enforcementagencies but also the community in its efforts to report illegalwildlife trafficking.-VNA
