In its article published on July 6, Reporte Asia stated that Vietnam has held key international roles, including ASEAN Chair in 1998, 2010, and 2020; the host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forums in 2006 and 2017; and the member of the UN Human Rights Council in 2014–2016 and 2023–2025, demonstrating its commitment to dialogue and joint problem-solving. The Southeast Asian country has actively joined UN peacekeeping operations, with Vietnamese medical and engineering personnel serving in South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Abyei, making meaningful contributions to global peace in a way that resonates with the deep humanistic values of Latin American countries, the article said. In Latin America, Vietnam has strengthened cooperation with many organisations such the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), aiming to foster connectivity among countries for shared interests.
Besides, Vietnam engages with regional countries across areas, ranging from agricultural trade, sharing farming techniques, to learning from education models and sustainable development practices. Vietnam–Latin America cooperation holds practical potential, from sharing rice cultivation experience with countries that have similar agricultural conditions, to learning large-scale production methods for crops like coffee and soybeans, and advancing renewable energy development by leveraging the region’s achievements in wind and solar power. The article highlights Vietnam’s recent accession as a BRICS partner country, saying that this marks a new step in its commitment to joining other countries in building a fair and multipolar international order. It attributed Vietnam’s successful international integration to the country’s policy of multilateral diplomacy.
It recalls Vietnam’s milestones in international integration, including joining the UN in 1977, ASEAN in 1995, and the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in 2007, as pivotal moments that enabled Vietnam to gradually participate deeply in the global economy. The 17 free trade agreements (FTAs) between Vietnam and major economic hubs such as the European Union, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), are the results of the country’s persistent efforts to expand international cooperation, the article said. In the face of global challenges such as climate change, food security, and social inequality, Vietnam wishes to join hands with Latin American countries in seeking common solutions for a sustainable world, Reporte Asia said./.
