The Vietnam People’s Army has contributed significant part to the country’s socio-economic accomplishments in the first six months of 2019, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at the national political-military conference in Hanoi on July 8.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam People’s Armyhas contributed significant part to the country’s socio-economicaccomplishments in the first six months of 2019, Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc said at the national political-military conference in Hanoi on July 8.

He expressed his belief that the VietnamPeople’s Army will join hands with the whole Party and people to implementsuccessfully all tasks of 2019.

The PM agreed with the orientations and tasksdefined by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defencein the remainder of 2019, focusing on leading and directing accurateassessment, forecasting the situation, and consulting the Party and State todeal with situations successfully, especially in strategic areas.

The commission and the ministry will continuedirecting the entire army to promote their core role of building the all-peoplenational defence and military zones in centrally-run cities and provinces aswell as attach importance to defence education and building militia andself-defence forces.

Military units will strictly maintain thereadiness to fight and proactively coordinate with relevant forces to safeguardthe national territorial integrity and sovereignty, political events andsecurity, and marine economic activities as well as actively prevent foreigninvasion of national sea and island sovereignty and borders via peaceful means,and create a peaceful environment to develop the country.

The Central Military Commission and the Ministryof National Defence will direct the whole army to implement effectivelyinternational integration and external defence; consult the Party and State towell handle defence relations and create strategic balance with othercountries; promote bilateral defence cooperation in a practical, stable andeffective manner; and prepare well for Vietnam’s participation in defenceactivities as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2020,helping increase the position of the Vietnamese army in the internationalarena.

In the first six months of 2019, Vietnameseborder guards brought to light 547 drug cases, seizing 1,062 traffickers andover 1,026 kg of drugs of all kinds.-VNA
