Art performance in Quang Tri marks National Reunification Day

An art performance was held in the central province of Quang Tri’s Hien Luong-Ben Hai special national historical relic site to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2017) and the 45th anniversary of the liberation of Quang Tri (May 1, 1972-2017).

Quang Tri (VNA) –An art performance was held in thecentral province of Quang Tri’s Hien Luong-Ben Hai special national historicalrelic site to celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the Liberation ofthe South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2017) and the 45th anniversary of the liberation of Quang Tri (May 1, 1972-2017).

The event was jointly held by the provincial Party Committeeand People’s Committee, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Nhan dan (People)Newspaper.

Themed “Quang Tri – the Memory of a River,” the 100-minute performancere-enacted the 81 day-and-night struggle of the Quang Tri people against the USenemy who threw about 328,000 tonnes of bombs to the area, killing a hugenumber of Vietnamese soldiers.

It told the story of the Ben Hai and Thach Han Rivers withthe pain of north-south separation, the great happiness of reunification, andthe sacrifices of soldiers and locals during the struggle.

Quang Tri liberation campaign and heroic struggle to defendQuang Tri ancient citadel, together with the victories on other battlefields,paved the way for the 1975 General Offensive and Uprising that liberated thesouth and reunited the entire country.

Participants also had a chance to talk with historicalwitnesses, including Nguyen Xuan Ly, head of the civil defence group of Vinh Giangcommune in Vinh Linh district, the unit specialising in rowing soldiers, foodand weapons to the south battlefields and Con Co island.

At the event, VNA General Director Nguyen Duc Loi presented800 million VND (35,176 USD) to the Quang Tri fund for supporting contributorsto the revolution in orderto build 10 charity houses for theneedy in the province.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.
