The Vietnamese weightlifting team seized two gold medals and broke two records at the ongoing 2017 ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 18.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnameseweightlifting team seized two gold medals and broke two records at the ongoing 2017ASEAN Para Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September 18.

In the men’s 49 kg category, Le Van Congsecured his best score at the third lifting with 181kg, surpassing all rivalsand breaking his own record (178kg) set at the previous games.

Meanwhile, in the men’s 54kg, weightlifterNguyen Binh An won after a lift of 181 kg, compared to the category’s lastrecord of 175kg.

To date, the Vietnam delegation has bagged six gold medals, four ofwhich came from swimming.

The ASEAN Para Games is a biannual multi-sport event heldafter every Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) for ASEAN athletes with physicaldisabilities.

The ninth Games, which will last until September 23, areparticipated in by the countries located in Southeast Asia, including Brunei,Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore,Thailand, and Vietnam.

Vietnamese players viefor medals in eight events, including swimming, track-and-field, weightlifting,chess, badminton, boccia, football for the visually-impaired and tabletennis.-VNA

Vi♏etnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernmen♒tal Committee
