ASEAN senior officials met in the central province of Quang Nam on May 17 and 18, discussing measures to implement the 16 th ASEAN Summit’s results.
ASEAN senior officials met in the central province of Quang Nam on May 17 and18, discussing measures to implement the 16 th ASEAN Summit’sresults.

The meeting (ASEAN-SOM), chaired by ASEAN SOM Vietnam Pham QuangVinh, also discussed preparations for the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) andrelated events, which will take place in Hanoi from July 19-23.

Theycompleted the draft third Protocol on amendments to the Treaty of Amity andCooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) to submit to the AMM, which is expected topave the way for ASEAN partners to joint the TAC. The officials also discussedmeasures to boost cooperation between ASEAN and their partners, and assist inthe compilation of the draft Master plan, to be submitted to the 17 th ASEANSummit to be held in Hanoi in October, 2010.

The participants spent muchtime to exchange views on emerging regional structures and agreed to coordinateto build an ASEAN common stance, which Vietnam , as ASEAN Chair, will present atthe G-20 Summit in Canada on June 26-27./.
