Hanoi (VNA) – The karate team earned another gold for Vietnam at the 19th AsianGames in Hangzhou city of China on October 6.
The trio of NguyenThi Phuong, Luu Thi Thu Uyen and Nguyen Ngoc Tram performed exceptionally well, surpassing thehighly-rated Malaysian karate artists in the performance category with a scoreof 42.7.
It is the first goldmedal of the Vietnames♔e karate team and the third of the Vietnamese delegation atthe tournament.
Later, the teamcontinued their success by winning a silver. Nguyen Thi Thoan brought the fourth silver to Vietnam after losing a rival from the hostcountry, Gong Li, in the women's kumite 61kg category./.
Vietnamese women’s karate team won the gold medal in kumite after beating Iranian team 2-0 in the final match on July 23 at the on-going 2023 Asian Senior Karate Championship in Malaysia.
A Karate tournament of the Vietnamese community in Japan titled "Suzucho Karate-do Kanto Open 2023" took place at Tokyo dojo on August 12, bringing together dozens of athletes from Vietnamese karate clubs across the country.
Just over an hour after Phung Thi Hue won a bronze in the women's 48kg Jujitsu category, Dinh Thi Huong secured another bronze in the women's 68kg karate kumite event for the Vietnamese sport delegation at the 19th Asian Games in China on October 5.
With two more bronze medals gained on October 5, Vietnam temporarily ranks 20th on the medal table of the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD), which is taking place in Hangzhou city of China.
This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The outcome shows the trust and recognition that member states have given Vietnam for its efforts and achievements in carrying out and promoting the Convention, as well as for its active role, strong standing, and growing credibility at UNESCO.
