Asian scientists meet on coastal marine ecology

Around 200 marine scientists from Japan and several ASEAN countries are gathering in the northern port city of Hai Phong from October 26-29 for the 4 th international convention on coastal marine science.
Around 200 marine scientists from Japanand several ASEAN countries are gathering in the northern port city ofHai Phong from October 26-29 for the 4 th international convention oncoastal marine science.

During the course of the meeting, participants reviewed the latestscientific research reports in the study field, which focus onevaluation of and solutions to the destructive impacts of populationgrowths and the fast speed of urbanisation on coastal ecology.

Parcipating experts exchanged information about the current activitiesin coastal marine science in Asian countries and the Southeast Asiaregion, the conditions of coastal ecology and effects of climate changeon coastal areas.

They also put forward suggestions and solutions to deal with thegrowing imbalance between industrial development and protection ofenvironment in general and of coastal environment in particular.

The meeting is part of a bilateral cooperation project on coastalmarine science between the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science(JSPS) and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST)./.

🔜 Vietnam contributes to international court's advisory opinion on climate change

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. Following the resolution's adoption, Vietnam fully participated in all procedural steps for the first time, from submitting written proposals to presenting directly at the court’s hearings.

♚ Hanoi to roll out policies supporting green transport transition

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
