Australian naval warship cancels visit to Vietnam

The Royal Australian Navy warship, HMAS Ballarat, will cancel its goodwill visit to Vietnam this August due to an engineering defect.
The Royal Australian Navy warship, HMAS Ballarat, will cancel itsgoodwill visit to Vietnam this August due to an engineering defect.

According to a short notice issued by the AustralianEmbassy in Vietnam on August 20, the ship must now proceed directly toSingapore for emergency repairs.

Earlier onAugust 16, the embassy released a release announcing that HMASBallarat would pay a goodwill visit to Vietnam with the purpose ofstrengthening relations between the two navies and enhancing bilateralties between Vietnam and Australia .

The ship is scheduled to visit Ho Chi Minh City from August 22-26 with a crew of 28 officers and 156 sailors, it said.-VNA
