Bac Lieu cares for underprivileged children

The southern province of Bac Lieu has taken measures to care for children living in extremely difficult circumstances over the past three years through a community-based project.

– The southern province of Bac Lieu has takenmeasures to care for children living in extremely difficult circumstances overthe past three years through a community-based project.

At a conference held on December29 to review the three-year implementation of the project, the provincialDepartment of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs announced that theprovince has set up 22 clubs and mobilised a total of 23 billion VND (1.01million USD) to take care of, educate and protect underprivileged children.

The project has benefited nearly20,900 children, of whom all are provided with health insurance cards, nearly1,500 receive monthly allowances and more than 100 are brought up at the SocialProtection Centre and non-public social protection establishments.

The province is striving to assist95 percent of children living in extremely difficult circumstances by 2020.

To that end, it will continueconsidering child care as a task of local administrations, schools, familiesand the entire society.

Child care will be included inthe locality’s socio-economic development plans, and legal documents related tochild care and protection will be completed.

On this occasion, 18 outstandingunits and individuals who had contributions to child care in Bac Lieu werehonoured.-VNA
