Hanoi (VNA)♍ – The Bangladesh-Vietnam Friendship Society (BVFS) was officially established on March 13, as oneof the activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Bangladesh diplomatic relationship.
The society sees the participation of former ambassadors of Bangladesh to Vietnam, members of theBangladesh-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, war veterans,intellectuals, journalists, writers, and artists. ShamsherM. Chowdhury, BB, former Foreign Minister and former Ambassador of Bangladeshto Vietnam, serves as BVFS President. In his remarks, the official stressed that the establishment of the associationdemonstrates the close ties between the two countries, as well as Bangladesh’sefforts in promoting their solidarity. With his love forVietnam and his desire to keep contributing to the friendship and prosperity ofBangladesh and Vietnam, especially to promote people-to-people exchanges,cultural exchanges, Shamsher M. Chowdhury and his Bangladeshi friends decidedto establish the Bangladesh - Vietnam Friendship Society. Secretary ofBangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhuryreviewed major milestones in the Vietnam-Bangladesh relations over the past 50years. He said Vietnam isone of the most dynamic countries in Asia and that he hopes with the engagementof the BVFA, the relations between the two countries and their peoples willgrow in a more intensive and practical way. Vietnamese Ambassadorto Bangladesh Pham Viet Chien emphasised that the formation of the BVFA ismeaningful to the Vietnam-Bangladesh relations as it celebrates the 50thanniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties. The diplomat notedhis hope that the association will organise activities bringing peoples of thetwo countries together, and help promote Vietnam’s land, people, culture,and achievements among Bangladeshi people. On this occasion,President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations Ambassador Nguyen PhuongNga sent a letter of congratulations to the BVFA In the letter, Ngasaid its establishment has contributed to cooperation and friendship as well aspeople-to-people diplomacy between the two countries, and expressed her hope forfruitful cooperation with the association in people-to-people diplomacy./.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Bangladesh has given awards to three Bangladeshis in recognition of their contributions to promoting friendship relations between the two countries, especially to introducing the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh who was recognised by UNESCO as a Hero of National Liberation and a Great Man of Culture, to local residents.
