Hanoi (VNA) –The Standing Board of the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has agreed to create the best possible conditions for the trial ofhomegrown vaccines.

If the trial goes well, in the context ofvaccine scarcity the Ministry of Health will submit to competent agencies forapproval of the use of homegrown vaccines in emergency circumstances.

Several companies haveinvested in plants and are seeking vaccine production technologies both in andoutside the country. At least one large-scale COVID-19 vaccine production plantis scheduled to be put in operation in late 2021 or early 2022.

The Ministry of Health hasurged the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (VABIOTECH) to conduct procedures to receive Sputnik V vaccine productiontechnology from Russia in two phases. In the first phase, the company will import materialsfrom Russia for bottling and production is expected to begin in July.

The Ministry of Health willcoordinate with ministries and sectors to submit to the Government a proposalon accessing all vaccine supply sources in the world towards the goal ofachieving herd immunity by the end of 2021, and create mechanisms to facilitateinvestors’ investment in the production of vaccines in the country to serve notonly domestic use but also export./.

Vietnam, France collaborate in vaccine production technologꦫy transfer

Under the agreement, VNVC and Sanofi will gradually implement technology transfers to enable domestic production of several key Sanofi vaccines that are widely used in Vietnam. In addition, Sanofi will support VNVC in training human resources and quality management in vaccine research and manufacturing.

Enhanced anti-COVID-19 measures in place amid rising ꧃cases

According to the World Health Organisation, more than 25,000 COVID-19 cases have been recorded globally over the past month. Notably, from January 1 to May 10, Thailand reported nearly 54,000 infections and 16 deaths. The rise in cases in Thailand has been linked to the spread of XBB.1.16 subvariant.
