Construction work started on March 6 on a wastewater treatment plantin southern Binh Duong province, which will benefit over 400,000 localresidents.
It is part of a series of projects to improve the water environment in the South of Binh Duong.
The new plant, capable of treating 54,000 cubic metres of wastewaterper day, has a total investment of 6.8 trillion VND (318.5 million USD)allocated to three phases.
With capacity of 17,000cubic metres per day, the first phase of the project will be implementedin Thuan An commune, costing 2.3 trillion VND, 85 percent of whichcomes from Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) funds and theremaining from the Binh Duong Water Supply Sewerage Environment Co.,Ltd.
During the first phase, a 200 kilometre network of pipes, mainly in residential areas around Ba Bo Canal, will be built.
According to Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee TranThanh Liem, the water environment improving project in the South of BinhDuong is of vital importance and beneficial the locality in the longterm.
The province has put its first urbanwastewater treatment plant into operation in Thu Dau Mot city with acapacity of 17,650 cubic metres per day since May 2013.-VNA
