Cambodia: COVID-19 infections increase, deaths yet to slow down

The numbers of new COVID-19 cases and deaths in Cambodia have shown no sign of slowing down recently, with continued growth in infections outside Phnom Penh capital and imported cases.

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Thenumbers of new COVID-19 cases and deaths in Cambodia have shown no sign ofslowing down recently, with continued growth in infections outside Phnom Penh capital and imported cases.

The Cambodian Ministry of Health on June 28 announced 883 new COVID-19infections, including 135 imported cases, and 16 deaths recorded in 24 hours, accordingto the Khmer Times newspaper.

As of June 28, thecountry has posted 48,532 infection cases, with 42,764 recoveries and 556 relatedfatalities.

The same day, one million doses ofthe Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine that Cambodia had ordered from China arrived at PhnomPenh International Airport.

So far, Cambodia has received morethan 11 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 342,000 doses ofAstraZeneca under the COVAX Facility and the rest being Sinopharm and Sinovac fromChina.

Permanent Secretary of State for Economy andFinance Vongsey Vissoth said the country will receive the planned 20 milliondoses of vaccines by the end of this August./.
