Cambodia holds int’l marathon at Angkor Archaeological Park

Hanoi (VNA) – About 3,000 domestic and international runners took part in the 9th Angkor Empire Marathon held at the Angkor Archaeological Park in Cambodia’s northwest on August 4.

In his opening remarks, Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), highlighted that the annual event aims to promote sports and boost tourism in Angkor during the rainy season.

The participants included 815 international runners from 51 countries, the majority of whom came from Japan, China, Vietnam, the UK, and Thailand.

The marathon featured four categories: the full marathon (42km), a half marathon (21km), a 10km race, and a 3km fun run.

Participants ran around Angkor Wat, a key ancient temple in the Angkor Archaeological Park, surrounded by stunning architectural beauty and scenic views.

The men’s full marathon title was claimed by a Cambodian who finished in 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 51 seconds. An Irish runner won the women’s full marathon, with clocking 3:05:43, according to results announced by the NOCC.

Located in Siem Reap pr𒐪ovince, the 401sq.km Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1992, is the most popular tourist destination i𓆏n Cambodia./.
