Cambodia works to promote economic recovery despite COVID-19

Phnom Penh (VNA) – Despite the spread of Omicron variant cases, Cambodiawill continue to fully resume the re-opening of socio-economic activities whichbegan on November 1, said Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techno Hun Sen.

Speaking at the handover ceremony of 783,000doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine donated by Australia at Phnom PenhInternational Airport on December 26, Hun Sen said that Cambodia had detectedanother 15 cases of the Omicron variant on the same day.

All the new cases were imported, bringing the total of Omicron infections to 31, of themthree have already fully recovered.

The Cambodian PM re-appealed his compatriots not to panic, but to continueto stick to the existing health and safety measures, especially the three dosand don’ts, with the same strong care and responsibility.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, Cambodia has consideredvaccination as a "strategic weapon" in the fight against thepandemic.

He took this occasion to thank Cambodian people, friendly countries anddevelopment partners for their support for the Southeast Asian nation’s COVID-19 vaccinationcampaign./.
