Cambodia’s rice export hits record high in first five months

Cambodia exported 257,637 tonnes of rice in the first five months of 2017, up 10 percent compared with the same period last year, according to the latest report on June 10.

PhnomPenh (VNA) – Cambodia exported 257,637 tonnes of rice in the firstfive months of 2017, up 10 percent compared with the same period last year,according to the latest report on June 10.

The country deliveredits rice to 57 countries and regions around the world, said the report compiledby the Secretariat of One Window Service for Rice Export.

Three top buyers areChina, France and Poland, it was quoted by Xinhua. China imported 88,769 tonnesof rice from Cambodia during the January-May period this year, France imported33,459 tonnes, and Poland purchased 23,036 tonnes.

Cambodian PrimeMinister Hun Sen said in mid-May that China had agreed to increase its import quotafor Cambodian rice from 200,000 tonnes in 2017 to 300,000 tonnes in 2018.

Cambodia producesmore than 9 million tonnes of paddy rice a year. With this amount, it has over3 million tonnes of milled rice left over for annual export.-VNA
