Can Tho (VNA) – Thousands of students at the CanTho University learned safe motorbike driving skills at a communications eventon traffic safety on October 12.

The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Education andTraining, National Committee for Traffic Safety, Ministry of Public Securityand Honda Vietnam. It aims to raise students’ awareness on respecting trafficregulations and spread the knowledge among their families and friends in a bidto reduce road accidents and congestion.

Addressing the event, Bui Van Linh, Director of theDepartment of Political Education and Student Affairs under the Ministry ofEducation and Training, underscored the fact that traffic accidents cost Vietnamnearly 50 trillion VND (2.15 billion USD) on an annual basis, equaling 30percent of the national budget for education and 60 percent of the country’srice export earnings.

He attributed the issue to drivers’ traffic violations, lowawareness of the traffic law, and safe driving practices.

Technicians from the Honda Hong Duc company offered vividand detailed guidance for participants during the event.
