Car owners advised to check registration expiry extension on specific website

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam Register(VR) under the Ministry of Transport (MoT) has recommended car owners to check thecertifications of the validate time of their vehicles’ registration certificatesand stamps via the website and only do so when their cars near registration expiry.
The move was made in response torepeated overload on the VR website on recent days.
On June 3, the first day ofenforcement of the MoT’s Circular 08/2023/TT-BGTVT that amends and supplementssome articles of Circular 16/2021/TT-BGTVT on technical safety andenvironmental protection examination in streamlined procedures, the VR uploadedto its system 6,435 certificates of the validate time of registration certificatesand stamps of the cars with registration expiring on June 3 and 4 and expiry datesautomatically extended.
The VR website recorded up to 3.6million visits to check the validate time certifications as of 4:30pm on June 3, or 2.57 times higher than the 1.4 million cars entitled to automatic registrationexpiry extension.
The administration said there arenearly 2.96 million passenger cars with nine seats and below not providingtransport services nationwide, including nearly 1.4 million vehicles entitled to automaticextension of the validate time shown on their registration certificates andstamps between June 3, 2023 and June 30, 2024. Meanwhile, more than 1.56million others are not entitled to this extension.
It is necessary to issue the certificatesof the validate time of registration certificates and stamps to differentiatethe two groups of vehicles, the VR said, noting that the certificates aregranted automatically by its online software.
The issuance is expected to ensureconvenience for people and enterprises when applying for registrationcertificates and stamps and moving on roads, and also prevent congestion atregistration centres.
However, the validate timecertificates cannot be used to replace the registration certificates andstamps, the VR added./.
Starting July 1 of this year, newly acquired vehicles might no longer be required a mandatory mechanic examination during registration for road use under a new policy being mulled.
Brand-new automobiles will be exempt from the first mechanical check under a revised circular on technical safety and environmental protection promulgated by the Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) said that it is necessary to devise a 50% cut on auto registration fees and extend the payment of the excise tax on locally-assembled and manufactured cars to stimulate consumer demand and ease the burden on businesses.
